Unpopular Natural Sciences
Lack of Scientific Knowledge is Discernable in Everyday Life

"...The Hungarian Association for Innovation has had the same experience. The Association organizes more programs for students, such as THE (Acronym in Hungarian for scientific, useful, human), the Meet the Scientist program where young, Hungarian Fulbrighter scientists can meet with high school students. The Association is on Facebook. They have ten thousand members. If they call attention to natural sciences, youth will pay attention.
"There are no experiments in class, there is a shortage of specialists," stated Dr. László Antos, Executive Director of the Hungarian Association for Innovation, as possible causes of the waning interest in sciences. He continued by stating that he can count on one hand how many chemistry teachers graduated last year; regarding the education of engineers, 2010 was the first year after a very long time when the number of applicants did not decrease but remained the same."

Alarming statistics were mentioned at the press conference at Arany János Elementary and High School in the 12th district in Budapest. The chances of job placements for graduates have to be increased and the conditions of education have to be improved.
